PRESS RELEASE FROM THE CATHOLIC UNION OF GREAT BRITAIN REGARDING THE MARRIAGE (SAME SEX COUPLES) ACT JULY 2013

The Catholic Union of Great Britain considers that the Marriage (Same Sex Couples) Act which has reached the Statute Book, is a radical departure from the true meaning of marriage and will have unforeseen and deleterious consequences for society.
The debate has been conducted with scant regard for the welfare of children and has concerned itself only with the interests of adults.
We say children are at the heart of marriage. There is substantial evidence that children do best when raised by their biological parents – preferably within traditional marriage.
We have concerns about the government assurances that people expressing this truth will not be discriminated against in civil and possibly criminal law.
