The Catholic Union’s first “Pub Talk” took place on Monday 23 January with Lord Alton of Liverpool as our inaugural guest speaker.
Lord Alton addressed a packed room in the Windsor Castle pub in Victoria about his work campaigning against genocide.
Lord Alton encouraged everyone in the room to take action by thinking more carefully about the products they buy, and by contacting local MPs to ask the Government to make time available to debate his Genocide Determination Bill, which is currently waiting for Committee Stage in the House of Lords.
The evening was the first in a new series of events for people with a background or interest in politics and public affairs. The Catholic Union will be hosting other “Pub Talks” throughout the year.
The next event will be on Wednesday 15 March with former Labour MP and Government Minister, Ruth Kelly, who will talk about her work on the Vatican’s Council for the Economy. More information and sign up and can be found here.
