The following Papal Message was conveyed to the former President of the Catholic Union, Rt Hon Sir Edward Leigh MP, by the Apostolic Nuncio to Great Britain, Archbishop Miguel Maury Buendía, on 6 March 2024.
“The Holy Father Francis, informed of the conclusion of the Presidency of Sir Edward Leigh at the Catholic Union of Great Britain, sends his greetings and good wishes to Sir Edward and to all those involved in the Union’s important work.
“In emphasising the importance of our baptismal vocation to evangelise, His Holiness reminds us that ‘proclaiming the Gospel message… also involves proclaiming it to professional, scientific and academic circles. This means an encounter between faith, reason and the sciences… a creative apologetics which would encourage greater openness to the Gospel on the part of all’. (Pope Francis, Evangelii Gaudium, 132)
“Renewing these sentiments, the Holy Father cordially imparts his Apostolic Blessing to Sir Edward Leigh and to all members of the Catholic Union of Great Britain and, through the intercession of the Mother of God, invokes an abundance of Divine graces.”
