Final Push to Scrap the Cap

Earlier this month, we received the great news that the Education Secretary wants to allow Catholic free schools to open, following our campaign to “scrap the cap”.

Thanks to your support we are now closer than ever to lifting the cap and giving more young people the benefit of a Catholic education.

The decision is subject to a public consultation which closes on 20 June, and we need your help again to make sure we get this change over the line and implemented as soon as possible.

The Bishops’ Conference of England and Wales has launched a new “e-action” tool on their website that allows you to take part in the consultation with the click of a couple of buttons.

It takes 30 seconds to complete the form. The responses go directly to the Department for Education and will make a real difference to the outcome of the consultation.

While we know the importance and benefit of Catholic education, there are others who do not. A number of campaign groups are working hard to stop the cap from being lifted, so it is vitally important that we make our voices heard.

There have been attempts to lift the cap since it was introduced at the roll out of the free school programme, 14 years ago. This latest attempt was led by the Catholic laity with over 1,000 people signing our open letter to Gillian Keegan.

Having come so far, we need to make sure that there is a big response from the Church community to this consultation and that we finally scrap the cap!

Please pass on this email to anyone who might be interested, including your local parish, and encourage them to take part. Thank you for your continued support.
