Following the Queen’s Speech, delivered by the Prince of Wales on 10 May, the Catholic Union has issued the following response.
Catholic Union Director, Nigel Parker, comments: “It’s right that easing the cost of living for families should be front and centre of the Queen’s Speech. Families across the country are seeing costs going up faster than their income. There needs to be much greater support for families most in need.
“The Government should also use what time is left in this Parliament to reduce the tax burden on families. The Catholic Union has put forward plans that would help families keep more of the money they earn and tackle child poverty. These changes are needed more than ever.
“Plans for education reform give us the opportunity to highlight the great work being done by Catholic schools across the country. We will carefully monitor new Bills to tackle online harm and ban conversion therapy, as well as plans to introduce a new Bill of Rights.
“The Catholic Union will continue to make sure that the views and interests of the Catholic community in this country are heard in Westminster.”
