There are numerous interesting events organised by the Las Casas Institute and others at Blackfriars Oxford, please see the Events Calendar on their website. The Centre for Catholic Studies at the University of Durham has an excellent programme of Catholic lectures and other events. For details, click here. The London Jesuit Centre also hosts a number of interesting courses. So does the Thomistic Institute in the USA though beware of the difference in time zones for live talks! Catholic Union Events Saturday 23 July 2022 11am – 5pm. The Catholic Union Summer Gathering. Some places are still available for the Catholic Union Summer Gathering on Saturday 23 July at St Mary’s College, Oscott, near Birmingham. Please join us to hear more about the Catholic Union’s work and to see the beautiful Pugin chapel and other treasures of Oscott. Tickets are only £28 per person, which includes lunch, refreshments and a tour. The day will start with Mass in the Chapel at 11am. Full details on how to book are here. Dorothy Day: The Long Loneliness. The Las Casas Institute continues its weekly online discussion group on sections of Dorothy Day’s The Long Loneliness. Free and open to all. Registration required. Christopher Lamb talks to Catherine Pepinster – former Editor of The Tablet, historian, commentator and author – about her new book, Defenders of the Faith: The British Monarchy, Religion and the Next Coronation. Saturday 4 June from 9.45 am – 5 pm. St Anthony Communications Conference: Dr Ralph Martin. This is a one day event that will feature talks by guest speakers Dr Ralph Martin, Fr Marcus Holden, and Fr Andrew Pinsent. Venue: St Mary’s Parish Centre, 70 Wellesley Road, West Croydon, CR20 2AR. This event is part of the ongoing event series Free Speech at the Crossroads: International Dialogues. This will be hosted by the Las Casas Institute, Campion Hall and Georgetown University. Lincoln Cathedral Common Good Project are holding a series of lectures exploring social theology and its role in spiritual and civic renewal. To mark the occasion of the XXV Anniversary of the Federation of Catholic Family Associations in Europe (FAFCE) and in preparation for the Tenth World Meeting of Families, FAFCE are hosting an online conference. A panel of distinguished guests will be discussing the goal and drivers of Christian unity in the 21st century. Guests involve Fr Dominic Robinson, Parish Priest Farm Street Church, Richard Bradbury, leader of Beverley Community Church in East Yorkshire, Andy Pettman, President of the European branch of the ecumenical movement of Christian Communities called the Sword of the Spirit, and Rev Dr. Paul Goodliff recently retired from his role as General Secretary of Churches Together in England, and a theological educator. A lecture by Dr Stephen Law, lecturer in Philosophy and Director of the Certificate of Higher Education, University of Oxford will speak on “Wittgenstein on Religious Belief”. This event is hosted by the Heythrop Association. Free to attend online. Zoom link here. Tuesday 21 June from 1 – 3 pm. What does the Ukraine crisis tell us about the ethics of refugee policies? Sunday 26 June from 2.30 pm. The Martyrs’ Walk. Catholic History Walks will be walking in the footsteps of the Martyrs across London. Walkers to meet at 2.30 pm in the churchyard of St Giles-in-the-Fields, London WC2 8LG. The walk will proceed towards Tyburn Convent, for Benediction and tea, arriving at approx 4pm. No need to book. Zipoli’s San Ignacio De Loyola. The ensemble El Parnaso Hyspano will perform – for the first time in the UK – the opera/oratorio San Ignacio de Loyola by the Jesuit composer Domenico Zipoli (1688-1725). The performance of this important work of indigenous South American Baroque will be a contribution to mark the 400th anniversary of the canonisation of St Ignatius and St Philip Neri. There will be two performances: Friday 8th July at 7.30pm in the Little Oratory (The Oratory, Brompton Road, SW7 2RP), followed by a wine reception in St Joseph’s Hall; and Saturday 9th July at the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Farm Street (W1K 3AH).
