Why Polling is Becoming a Substitute for Political Leadership

Andrew Hawkins, political pollster, will deliver a Catholic Union Pub Talk on Monday 17 March chaired by journalist Catherine Pepinster.  The event is open to all, but booking is essential as spaces will be limited.

Andrew Hawkins says: “I’m looking forward to the Catholic Union’s Pub Talk and providing an insight into the mechanisms of polling and exploring whether polling is a substitute for political leadership. With the 2024 General Election well under our belts there is much data to analyse and interpret”.

A barrister by training, Andrew is a senior industry expert with vast experience across polling, campaigning, public affairs and corporate PR.  Andrew founded his previous business ComRes in 2003 and grew it to become one of the best-known brands in polling.

Catherine Pepinster says: “We’re seeing more and more of polling and its increasing influence, and we’re more in need of political leaders than ever before”.

Catherine Pepinster is a well-known journalist, broadcaster, and author specialising in religion. She was previously executive editor of the Independent on Sunday and edited The Tablet for 13 years.

The Catholic Union’s Pub Talks have proved a popular series of events with people in public life exploring a subject of particular interest to Catholics. Previous speakers include Lord Alton, Ruth Kelly, Catherine McKinnell, Jon Cruddas, Sir Iain Duncan Smith, Ann Widdecombe and Lord Glasman. Those interested in attending the Pub Talk with Andrew Hawkins on Monday 17 March at the Windsor Castle pub, Victoria, should book their tickets early, doors will open at 18.00.
