Assisted Suicide

Members and supporters of the Catholic Union may be relieved to hear that last night MSPs defeated Liam McArthur’s Assisted Dying for Terminally Ill Adults (Scotland) Bill, 69 to 57 votes. As Bishop John Keenan, President of the Bishops’ Conference of Scotland, said, MSPs can be confident that they have taken the correct and responsible course of action. We hope that their insights and wisdom give strength to members of the House of Lords who are painstakingly scrutinising the Terminally Ill Adults Bill in Westminster.  We need to continue to work towards a commitment to fully funded end of life and palliative care for all who need it.
