The possible murder of Ann Widdecombe, a former MP and MEP, well-known for her Catholic faith, has shocked the nation. Ann, and her grieving family, will be remembered at Mass at Buckfast Abbey today where many members of the Catholic Union will be gathering. Our thoughts and prayers are with all those to whom Ann was a friend or colleague. May she rest in peace.
Ann was a supporter of faith in public life and of the Catholic Union. Over the years she delivered the Craigmyle Lecture as well as a Catholic Union pub talk. In May this year Ann addressed the Catholic Union’s Parliamentary and Society Committee about legal migration. Read a tribute by Lord Alton of Liverpool, former President of the Catholic Union.
