Organised and led by Andrew Kelly and Eddie Gilmore
The Augustine Camino is a week-long walking pilgrimage route from Rochester Cathedral to the Shrine of St Augustine in Ramsgate, via Canterbury. Besides beautiful countryside, it features living monasteries, cathedrals and village churches; and there will be visits to the shrines to four of England’s greatest saints as well as the final resting place of the head of Thomas More. There will be an average of ten miles a day walking. Then, each evening
Eddie will be performing a little eclectic concert in some of the lovely old pubs en route.
Eddie Gilmore came to Canterbury in 1988 to be part of the L’Arche Kent community and it’s at L’Arche that he discovered his passion for pilgrimage. It’s also where he met his wife Yim Soon and in the last year and a half they’ve had the pleasure of doing the Camino in Spain, the Lycian Way in Turkey, the Way of Francis in Italy, and the Pilgrimage of Hope in England. He has just launched his own business and website (www.eddiegilmore.org) and he is delighted to be running this event with Andrew.
Andrew Kelly lives in Ramsgate with his wife Paula and their two children. Andrew and Paula are also enthusiastic hikers, having even spent their honeymoon walking the Offa’s Dyke National Trail. Andrew is a born tour guide with an unrivalled knowledge of the Augustine Camino. He knows all about the religious, historical and artistic significance of the places encountered en-route, and is an accomplished storyteller and genial walking companion. Pilgrims will hear about St Augustine and his mission to convert the English, stay in a medieval monastery, explore the two oldest cathedrals in England and see work by the greatest Victorian architects including Augustus Pugin and George Gilbert Scott.
Eddie and Andrew are looking forward to both walking and singing with you…
