Ecclesiastical Adviser to the Catholic Union

Rev Canon William Agley, General Secretary of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of England and Wales, has been appointed as Ecclesiastical Adviser to the Catholic Union.

Canon Agley succeeds Rt Rev Nicholas Hudson, Bishop of Plymouth in this role. The Catholic Union is very grateful to Bishop Nicholas for all his support and looks forward to having the opportunity to thank him more formally at the Summer Gathering at Buckfast Abbey on 11 July.

As Ecclesiastical Adviser, Canon Agley, along with Executive Director Greg Pope, will be the key interface between the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of England and Wales and the Catholic Union.  Our close working relationship is fundamental to the Union’s service to the laity and clergy across the country.

Canon Agley is a qualified solicitor and priest of the Diocese of Hexham and Newcastle, Canon Agley served as an official of what is now the Dicastery for the Clergy in Rome from 2012 to 2017. You can read his impressive biography here.
